Job summary

Ursa Major in Colorado is seeking a Senior Electrical Hardware Test Engineer to design, develop, and maintain Automated Test Equipment (ATE), Special Test Equipment (STE), and EGSE for avionics development, qualification, and production.

You will build custom test hardware, integrate commercial instrumentation, and collaborate across Test Software, FPGA, and Electrical Design teams to enable robust verification of FPBA-based avionics. Strong mixed-signal design and ITAR readiness are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 5+ years of experience developing electrical test equipment or automated hardware test solutions.
• Experience designing mixed-signal circuits and PCB assemblies.
• Strong analog/digital circuit design, signal integrity, power distribution, grounding and PCB layout knowledge.
• Experience integrating commercial instrumentation into automated test systems.
• Experience developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, and interface documentation.
• Familiarity with oscilloscopes, DMMs, signal generators, power supplies, electronic loads, logic analyzers, switching systems.
• Experience troubleshooting hardware and hardware/software integration.
• Knowledge of SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, Ethernet, USB, RS-422/485, GPIB, or PXI.
• Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. Person with ITAR/EAR eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, and maintain ATE, STE, or EGSE for avionics development, qualification, and production.
• Design interface hardware including signal conditioning, switching, power distribution, and instrumentation interfaces.
• Develop electrical schematics, cable assemblies, wiring diagrams, and hardware documentation for automated test systems.
• Select and configure laboratory instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, loads, signal generators, and data acquisition hardware.
• Develop test fixtures, harnesses, and adapter assemblies for development and production testing.
• Collaborate with Test Software Engineers to create integrated hardware/software test solutions.
• Support Hardware-in-the-Loop, qualification, environmental, and production testing activities.
• Develop test hardware capable of exercising processor-based and FPGA-based avionics assemblies.
• Troubleshoot hardware and integration issues; perform bring-up, calibration, verification, and validation.
• Support root cause investigations and corrective actions for test equipment and product failures.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality, and Program Management to meet objectives.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance test capability, reliability, and automation.
