Job summary

Collins Aerospace, RTX company, is seeking a Senior Safety Engineer to join our Reliability, Maintainability, and System Safety team in Cedar Rapids, IA. You will guide safety milestones for avionics systems and influence design decisions to ensure safety, reliability, and readiness for modern aviation.

The role requires a university degree with 5+ years experience (or advanced degree with 3+), expertise in ARP4761, ARP4754A, DO-254/DO-178, and ability to collaborate across disciplines with

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
• Experience in aircraft systems, hardware, or software engineering

Responsibilities

• Perform civil safety assessment process in accordance with ARP4761 (FHAs, PSSAs, SSAs, FTAs, CMAs)
• Support safety requirements definitions with systems, hardware, and software engineers
• Review design and development documentation for safety-critical equipment
• Review analyses of peer safety engineers
• Mentor and train less experienced safety engineers
• Be accountable to team members and leadership for committed work
• Develop and maintain expertise in assigned areas and collaborate with stakeholders
• Be a recognized technical safety expert in avionics safety
