Job summary

General Motors Ventures seeks a Sr Staff AV Behavior Safety Engineer to define and own the AV behavior safety strategy within the SAFE‑ADS program. You will align with validation, AI/ML, simulation and metrics teams to drive end‑to‑end behavior safety for GM’s autonomous driving systems.

You will interpret safety standards (SOTIF, AVSC) and shape evidence for safety performance indicators, testing across simulation, closed‑course and public roads, and contribute to launch readiness in a remote

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math is required.
• 6+ years in ML, engineering, data science, or related fields.
• 6+ years in autonomous vehicle or robotics development.
• Proven experience in production‑intent AV programs.
• Technical safety leadership in AV development and risk assessment.
• Deep understanding of AV behavior development and evaluation.
• Experience applying ISO safety standards (SOTIF/AVSC).
• Excellent communication and ability to influence cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Define strategy for safe autonomous system development, validation and deployment.
• Own the behavior‑focused portion of the ADS Safety Case with evidence.
• Collaborate with validation, AI/ML, simulation, and metrics teams.
• Break down ODDs and validate performance per behavior and in aggregate.
• Develop evaluation metrics, human benchmarks, and safety launch targets.
• Assess AV performance across safety and reliability using various data.
• Define and run assurance processes to meet safety targets.
