Job summary

Gatik seeks a Senior Systems & Safety Engineer for Autonomy to own the functional safety lifecycle across perception, localization, mapping, planning, controls, and fault management. You will architect high-availability safety mechanisms and ensure autonomy releases meet safety cases, in a Santa Clara, CA environment.

This on-site role requires 6+ years in functional safety for autonomous systems, with strong C++/Python skills and ISO 26262 expertise.

Qualifications

Education: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in Robotics, Systems Engineering, CS, or Aerospace Engineering.
6+ years in functional safety or systems engineering for autonomous vehicles, robotics, or safety-critical platforms.
Deep expertise in ISO 26262, UL 4600, and ISO 21448.
Strong programming in C++ and Python for reading codebases and logs.
Experience defining architecture for deterministic, real-time autonomous systems.
Tooling with Jama/DOORS/EA or tracing tools.

Responsibilities

System Safety Concept Development: FSC and TSC for Level 4 autonomous system per ISO 26262 (ASIL D).
Lead HARAs, STPA, FMEAs, and FTAs across autonomy modules.
Derive safety requirements from vehicle goals to software components and allocate to middleware/diagnostics.
Architect fail-operational, fail-safe strategies including degraded modes and pull-over behaviors.
Define SPIs and safety metrics to monitor stack maturity and release readiness.
Collaborate with Autonomy Software, Middleware, Infrastructure, and Systems teams.
