Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Sr. Design Engineer for its Sensing Systems Team in the Bay Area.

You will architect, develop, deploy and optimize advanced sensing systems for Rivian’s autonomous vehicles, owning sensor interfaces, firmware bring-up, and cross-domain debugging to ensure reliable, high-performance sensor behavior in real-world conditions. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Expert proficiency with Python, strong C++ skills for production code.
• Understanding of CAN, Ethernet, MIPI and synchronization methods (PTP, PPS).

Responsibilities

• Contribute to hardware integration and validation of ADAS sensors in prototype and production platforms.
• Own the sensor SW interface, including ethernet / MIPI / CAN frame formats and PTP timesync.
• Own the sensor FW development and sensor bring-up with validation and failure analysis.
• Collaborate with perception, controls, and embedded software teams for data integrity.
• Develop system-level test plans including lab and vehicle-level testing and EMI/EMC.
• Refine sensor calibration and alignment for multi-modal fusion readiness.
• Drive issue triage across HW, FW, and mechanical domains with data-driven methods.
• Support sensor supplier selection, evaluation, and field issue analysis.
• Maintain integration documentation and interface control specifications.
