Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Irving, TX is seeking a Senior Autonomy Engineer to advance localization for autonomous systems.

You will design and prototype production-grade C++ software, integrate sensors and filters, and collaborate with the team to deploy robust localization solutions. The role requires a BS/MS/PhD in robotics or related fields, 4+ years in robotics, and a strong background in Kalman filtering, ROS, and inertial navigation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, or PhD in Robotics, Electrical or Computer engineering or Computer Science.
• 4+ years of Robotics/Autonomous solution experience illustrating deep technical domain expertise.
• Strong proficiency in C++ with production-quality software for robotics, autonomy, localization, navigation, or real-time systems.
• Experience implementing filtering solutions including Error State, Kalman and Extended Kalman.
• In-depth knowledge of Inertial Measurement technology and Inertial Based Navigation and/or Guidance Systems.
• Knowledge of ROS and robotics frameworks.
• Mathematics foundations (3D geometry, linear algebra, statistical error modeling).

Responsibilities

• Research and design localization algorithms and software.
• Develop production quality C++ software including design, documentation, coding, product quality, and validation.
• Contributes to requirements generation and architecture design for localization.
• Support functional safety software design and validation process.
• Collaborate and mentor localization team members to achieve goals.
