Job summary

MITRE Corporation seeks a senior contributor in Autonomy and AI to lead cross-functional teams and advance embodied AI solutions across defense, healthcare, transportation, and citizen services.

You will evaluate AI/autonomy systems, guide sponsors, and push innovations in robotics, perception, and human–machine collaboration while navigating security requirements and hybrid work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in Autonomy and AI with a relevant Bachelor's degree, or 3 years with a Master's, or a PhD with relevant experience.
• Broad understanding of autonomous systems across domains (DoD, DHS, industry, academia).
• Deep experience in robotics fields such as computer vision, deep learning, ML, control theory, HMI, or multi-robot systems.
• Ability to articulate autonomy-specific challenges and discuss real-world constraints.
• Familiarity with state-of-the-art autonomy research and tools, including ROS 2 and Docker.
• Proven ability to work independently to learn new technologies, languages, and systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, with sponsor/stakeholder relationship skills.
• Demonstrated leadership, including team-leading, scheduling, risk, and budget management.
• Experience developing autonomy-focused research initiatives.
• Ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance within 12 months.
• U.S. citizenship is required for security clearance.
• Minimum 50% hybrid on-site work.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on cross-functional teams evaluating and improving autonomous systems performance.
• Maintain knowledge of advances in autonomy and robotics capabilities.
• Leverage technical expertise to evaluate and improve AI/Autonomy system performance.
• Provide thought leadership on autonomy/AI adoption in robotics hardware and cloud environments.
• Evaluate autonomy or AI solutions and guide sponsors based on requirements.
• Work on robotics topics such as computer vision, deep learning, ML, planning, and multi-robot systems.
• Build growth areas for Autonomous Systems (e.g., healthcare robotics, space robotics).
• Help define and execute strategy around enabling high-consequence autonomy applications with assurance, testing, and societal considerations.
