Job summary

Bot Auto is seeking a Senior Functional Safety Engineer to shape and assure the safety of our autonomous trucking platform. You will own hazard analyses, safety requirements, safety cases, and verification across autonomy, hardware, software and fleet teams to deliver rigorous safety for Level 4 operations.

We expect strong experience with FMEA/FTA/STPA, ISO 26262 or similar standards, and a proven ability to translate hazards into concrete engineering requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science or related field.
• 7+ years of experience in systems safety, functional safety, autonomous vehicles or related safety-critical domains.
• Strong experience with safety analyses such as FMEA, FTA, STPA and risk assessment.
• Experience contributing to safety cases for safety-critical systems.
• Deep understanding of autonomous vehicle architecture and safety-critical software/hardware integration.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262, ISO 21448/SOTIF, UL 4600, SAE J3016/J3018, MIL-STD-882 and similar standards.
• Ability to translate hazards into structured engineering requirements and mitigations.

Responsibilities

• Lead system safety analyses for autonomous trucking platform, covering autonomy software, controls, perception, planning and operations.
• Develop and maintain hazard analyses, functional safety concepts, safety requirements, safety cases and risk assessments.
• Translate hazards into clear, testable safety requirements for engineering, validation, operations and fleet teams.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure safety requirements are implemented and verified.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to drive safety case work products across the ecosystem.
• Define and refine Operational Design Domain, routes, environmental constraints and risk mitigation strategies.
• Evaluate safety impacts of new features, software/hardware changes and route expansions.
• Drive safety reviews for on-road testing, launch readiness and incident analysis.
• Analyze logs, simulations, and data to identify safety trends and improvements.
• Define verification/validation strategies across simulation, closed-course and real-world testing.
• Ensure traceability from hazards to requirements, tests and safety evidence.
