Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Irving, TX is seeking experienced robotics engineers to join the autonomy stack development for large off-road machines. You will own components end-to-end from idea to production on hardware, across perception, planning, and control.

The role requires deep expertise in AI, motion planning, perception, or SLAM, with production-quality C++ and Python; ROS experience is essential; you will work on real machines on-site.

Qualifications

• Typically, 10+ years of related engineering experience.
• Strong robotics generalist across the full autonomy stack.
• Deep expertise in at least one of: AI, motion planning, perception, controls, or SLAM.
• C++ and Python, production-quality.
• ROS (or similar) in real robotics systems.
• Full-lifecycle product experience—from idea to production on hardware.
• Pragmatic, first-principles engineer who owns components end-to-end.
• On-site experience with real machines and field deployment.
• MLOps / training-infrastructure depth for ML-leaning profiles.

Responsibilities

• Participating in test review, analysis, witnessed testing and certification of robotics software.
• Design, build, and ship autonomy components across perception, planning, control, and learning.
• Take work from prototype to production on real hardware.
• Contribute across the stack while owning a deep specialty.
• Work in small, outcome-focused pods from capability benches.
