Job summary

Johnson & Johnson seeks a Principal Automation and Robotics Engineer in Spring House, PA, to own the engineering strategy for physical automation in autonomous discovery platforms. You will shape robotics, controls, safety, and facility integration to scale scientific workflows across platforms.

As senior technical authority, you will guide architecture, risk, and lifecycle plans, partnering with scientists, data teams, IT/OT, and procurement to ensure reliable, scalable, AI-native laboratories.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronic, or related field is required.
• Advanced degree highly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Define robotics and physical automation reference architecture for multi-workcell SDL platforms.
• Establish enterprise standards for interfaces, safety systems, and maintenance concepts.
• Lead design reviews for multi-workcell automation and facility integration across discovery programs.
• Define modular, scalable physical automation to add new workcells without full redesign.
• Act as senior technical authority for robotics, controls, safety, and lifecycle strategy.
• Set governance for design reviews, interface control, FAT/SAT/UAT, and lifecycle support.
• Drive cross-site scalability, vendor governance, spare parts strategy, and AI-enabled automation.
• Mentor engineers and represent standards in governance forums and vendor discussions.
