Job summary

Johnson & Johnson in Spring House, PA, seeks a Principal Automation and Robotics Engineer to lead the engineering strategy for autonomous discovery platforms. You will shape robotics, controls, safety, and lab integration to scale scientific workflows across automated platforms.

You will guide architecture and governance, drive standardization across sites, and mentor engineers, partnering with scientists and IT/OT teams to enable safe, reliable, AI-native laboratory operations.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronic, or related field.
10+ years experience in automation, robotics, controls, or advanced engineering.
Strong understanding of robotics, automation, and instrumentation.
Ability to translate scientific workflow constraints into safe, maintainable machinery.
Experience with self-driving lab platforms and digital twins (preferred).

Responsibilities

Define physical automation reference architecture for multi-workcell SDL platforms.
Lead engineering strategy, governance, and risk management for robotics and controls.
Drive scale, standardization, and lifecycle management across sites.
Collaborate with scientists, IT/OT, facilities, and QA to ensure autonomous execution.
Mentor engineers and represent standards in governance forums.
