Job summary

Blue Origin's Factory Automation team seeks a Project Engineer with hands-on mechanical and controls experience in industrial automation. You will lead cross‑functional teams to deliver production‑ready systems, from requirements through commissioning, while ensuring scalable, repeatable manufacturing solutions.

Role emphasizes first‑principles reasoning, practical design, and collaboration with engineering partners to minimize complexity and maximize throughput in Blue Origin's manufacturing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Controls or Mechatronics.
• Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience in automated manufacturing systems design, build and commissioning.
• 2+ years in a project management or lead role on capital equipment/automation projects.
• Experience with industrial automation – mechanical design and/or controls engineering.
• Familiarity with automation simulation and cycle-time analysis tools.

Responsibilities

• Engage internal customers to define, document, and validate system requirements for automated manufacturing solutions.
• Develop conceptual simulations and cycle time models of machines and lines to optimize automation strategies.
• Develop initial conceptual solutions and present them to stakeholders, refining approaches based on feedback.
• Lead Design for Automated Manufacturing initiatives with product design teams to improve manufacturability.
• Prepare cost estimates, labor projections, and project schedules; develop scope of work documents.
• Own project execution from requirements to commissioning; maintain schedule, budget, and scope.
• Maintain knowledge of assigned projects; be the primary point of accountability for requirements and design decisions.
• Identify and evaluate automation suppliers; support procurement decisions.
• Collaborate with engineering teams during detailed design and provide clarifications.
