Job summary

Blue Origin's Factory Automation team seeks an experienced Project Engineer with hands-on mechanical and/or controls experience in industrial automation. You will drive automated manufacturing solutions from requirements through production-ready systems, partnering with design teams to ensure scalable, repeatable production across programs.

The role emphasizes real-world delivery, first-principles reasoning, and the ability to translate requirements into manufacturable automation solutions,

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Controls, Mechatronics, or related engineering field.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on technical experience in the design, build, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems with leadership experience.
• Hands-on experience in industrial automation with mechanical design and controls engineering.
• Experience with automation simulation and cycle time analysis using Process Simulate, Visual Components, FlexSim, or similar.
• U.S. citizenship or permanent residency or visa status allowing work in the U.S. (as applicable).
• Familiarity with PLC, CNC, and robot programming concepts.
• Experience in welding, machining, forming, material handling, metrology, machine vision is a plus.
• PMP certification or formal project management training is desirable.
• Ability to prepare budgets, vendor quotes, and scope of work documents.

Responsibilities

• Define, document, and validate system requirements for automated manufacturing solutions.
• Develop simulations and cycle-time models to evaluate automation strategies.
• Develop initial conceptual solutions for automated equipment and present to stakeholders.
• Lead design-for-automation initiatives with product teams to improve manufacturability.
• Prepare cost estimates, labor projections, and schedules for automation projects.
• Own project execution from requirements through commissioning and closure.
• Maintain knowledge of assigned projects and serve as primary technical lead.
• Identify and evaluate automation suppliers; support procurement decisions.
• Collaborate with engineering during detailed design to align with concept intent.
