Job summary

Cellares is seeking an Automation Engineer to drive automated QC workflows on the Cell Q platform at the South San Francisco site. You will develop liquid handling methods, program GBG code, and validate functionality before transfer to production.

You will collaborate with Analytical Development, QC, Software, Manufacturing and IT to document methods, support training, and ensure scalable, regulated automation from development through hand-off.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher degree in Engineering, CS, Biotechnology, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience developing and programming liquid handling automation.
• Hands-on experience with Biosero GBG software or similar scheduling tools.
• Proficiency in Python or C# programming.
• Experience cross-functionally to automate manual assays.
• Familiarity with flow cytometry, genomic, and cell-based assays.
• Experience with GMP docs and change control; regulator-friendly documentation.
• Strong technical writing; SOPs, docs, training materials.
• Excellent problem-solving and cross-team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop automated liquid handling protocols for new assays on Cell Q.
• Translate manual assays to automation with Analytical Development.
• Write and maintain GBG code for automation.
• Design and run validation experiments to optimize parameters.
• Test newly developed automated methods for functionality before validation.
• Troubleshoot liquid handler methods and GBG scripts.
• Collaborate with QC, Manufacturing, IT, and Quality for transfer to production.
• Document development, coding logic, and testing outcomes.
• Monitor and refine workflows based on feedback to improve reliability.
