Job summary

AOI in Sugar Land, TX seeks a highly experienced Senior Automation Engineer to lead design, implementation, and operation of full fab automation systems, including AGV fleets, OHT, Smart Inventory, robotics, MES integration, SECS/GEM, and related technologies.

The role defines automation strategy, leads major projects, sets engineering standards, collaborates with vendors, and mentors staff to boost manufacturing efficiency and equipment reliability. Occasional international travel is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Automation, Systems Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience in industrial automation, AMHS, semiconductor, electronics, or high-tech manufacturing.
• Experience leading large-scale automation projects involving AGV/AMR, OHT, robotics, conveyors, or automated warehouse systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, commissioning, and continuous optimization of factory-wide automation systems.
• Serve as the technical leader, establishing system architecture, engineering standards, preventive maintenance strategies, and long-term roadmaps.
• Lead automation integration projects with SECS/GEM, E84, MES, WMS, and factory control systems; ensure seamless communication with production tools.
• Manage automation vendors through the project lifecycle: design, FAT/SAT, installation, qualification, and performance improvement.
• Lead root cause analysis for complex automation issues across AGV, OHT, and factory infrastructures.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process, Facilities, IT, Quality, EHS, and Production to define automation requirements for new lines and expansions.
• Lead cleanroom automation layout planning, traffic simulation, routing optimization, charging station placement, and material flow analysis.
• Develop engineering specs, SOPs, equipment standards, maintenance docs, troubleshooting guides, and engineering change procedures.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to automation engineers, technicians, and maintenance staff.
• Support occasional international travel (approx. 10–15%) for supplier audits, equipment acceptance, and factory integration.
• Provide technical support during critical production events, NPI, major software deployments, and expansion activities.
