Job summary

Cornerstone Building Brands in Rocky Mount, VA is seeking a Sr. Maintenance Controls Specialist to lead automation and control system upgrades across manufacturing equipment. You will diagnose, program PLC/HMI, and commission new systems while mentoring maintenance staff.

This role requires strong electrical, automation, and mechanical skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision on controls and mechanical issues, supporting reliability improvements and capital projects.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent experience in electrical/automation fields.
• 7–10 years of industrial maintenance and automation experience.
• Ability to independently troubleshoot and develop PLC programs.
• Experience commissioning and supporting industrial automation systems.
• Advanced knowledge of electrical systems and motor controls.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting including pneumatics and hydraulics.
• Experience with multiple PLC platforms as listed.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair complex automation and control system failures.
• Read, interpret, troubleshoot, modify and document PLC programs across platforms.
• Develop PLC logic, HMI applications, recipes, and control strategies.
• Troubleshoot electrical circuits, sensors, drives, and motion control systems.
• Commission and startup new or modified automation systems.
• Create and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts, and drawings.
• Train maintenance and operations personnel on control systems.
• Lead modernization projects from concept to startup and manage contractors.
