Job summary

Blue Origin LLC is seeking an Automation Controls Engineer III to join the Factory Automation team in Huntsville, AL. The role covers design, integration, and commissioning of automated manufacturing systems across production sites, with a focus on safety and reliability.

You will work from concept to production, develop control architectures, simulate systems, and support field installation and startup efforts, enabling scalable manufacturing for space programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Controls, or related engineering field.
• Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience developing or integrating industrial controls and automation systems.
• Experience with functional safety devices, safety PLCs, and safety-rated circuits.
• Exposure to robots, conveyors, CNC integration, or similar automation tools.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with applications engineers on conceptual automated manufacturing equipment from concept through detailed design.
• Design and support control system architectures including network topology, I/O distribution, safety systems, and communication protocols.
• Develop offline simulations to validate control logic, robot paths, and cycle times prior to hardware availability.
• Support online debugging and commissioning of PLC, HMI, and robot programs.
