Job summary

Blue Origin seeks outstanding, highly motivated controls engineers to scale automated manufacturing across our spaceflight hardware programs. The role focuses on electrical design, PLC/robot programming, and data-driven control system enhancements to improve safety, quality, and efficiency in Blue Origin’s manufacturing environments.

You will collaborate with data-science teams, craft scalable control solutions, and ensure adherence to world-class quality standards while supporting diverse

Qualifications

  • 10+ years experience with common automation software development languages (ex. Ladder, ST, C/C++)
  • 10+ years experience with controls and automation software development environments (ex. Siemens TIA Portal, Allen Bradley Control Logix)
  • 10+ years experience with 'from scratch' software development used in automated tooling or equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and review electrical and mechanical drawings
  • Strong skills for design and process simplification
  • Ability to communicate clearly and humbly to partners
  • Understanding of world-class quality, attention to detail, and dedication
  • BS degree or higher in relevant engineering field
  • Familiarity with IEC 61131, ANSI B11, NFPA 79, RIA 15.06
  • Experience with Python or C#
  • Experience with NC programming (G-code, TP, Karel)
  • Excellent technical writing, grammar, and presentation experience
  • Experience with electrical verification of machines
  • Experience with source control for controls code
  • Hands-on with CNCs, metrology systems, and inspection
  • Electrical design for industrial control using AutoCAD Electrical

Responsibilities

  • Improve reliability and efficiency of manufacturing processes through automation; define technical architecture, roadmap and implementation
  • Collaborate with data-science and analytics teams for data-driven enhancements to manufacturing systems
  • Electrical design and modification of industrial control and safety systems
  • Design and modification of PLC and Robot programs
  • Design of process control systems (Torque tools, Machine Vision, etc.)
  • Design and development of data collection solutions
  • Develop SCADA applications (Ignition, Kepware, AWS, etc.)
  • Provide production support for sophisticated manufacturing equipment
