Job summary

Steven Douglas Corp. is seeking a Controls Engineer to own the controls portion of custom automation projects from concept through startup. You will define control architectures with mechanical and electrical engineers to deliver reliable, maintainable systems and lead debugging during panel builds and FATs.

You will program PLCs and HMIs, size servo axes, and integrate motion with safety and sequencing. Travel about 10% to support customer startups and installations, with growth opportunities

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronics or equivalent hands-on experience.
• 5–10 years of hands-on controls engineering experience designing custom industrial machinery or complex automated systems.
• Strong PLC and HMI programming experience, primarily Allen-Bradley platforms.
• Experience with complex motion control including multi-axis motion and high-speed automation.
• Experience leading controls work through full project lifecycle from concept to startup.

Responsibilities

• Own the controls portion of multiple automation projects from concept through customer acceptance.
• Define control architectures with mechanical and electrical engineers.
• Develop, test, and debug PLC, HMI, motion, and safety programs using scalable practices.
• Size, configure, and tune servo axes and integrate with machine sequencing and safety.
• Lead controls debugging during panel build, runoff, FAT, installation, and startup.
• Collaborate with customers during design reviews, FATs, startups, and technical discussions.
• Work daily withEngineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, and Service teams to deliver projects.
• Apply and improve SDC's controls standards and reusable code libraries.
