Job summary

ENGEL North America in York, PA is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer responsible for programming new robots and automation equipment, modifying software for industrial robots, and debugging existing products.

You will design electrical schematics, develop HMI, implement communications protocols, and provide technical support across projects. Travel 5-15% and a comprehensive benefits package accompany this role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software engineering is required or equivalent industry experience.
• Minimum of 7 years related experience (preferred in Robotic and/or Automation).
• Full understanding of electrical schematics and other technical drawings (preferred pneumatic and mechanical drawings).
• Capable of ladder logic, function block and structure text programming.
• Proficient in Microsoft programs, various software editors, Engel-specific programs, C++, Java, machine simulations (software and hardware) and SAP.
• Travel requirements: 5-15% with travel up to 2 weeks and passport required.

Responsibilities

• Program new robots and automation equipment and modify existing software.
• Troubleshoot and debug of existing products.
• Design electrical schematics and ensure safety standards for installations.
• Develop HMI and visualization for production cells.
• Program communication protocols (EtherCAT, Ethernet, I/O Link, OPC UA, Profibus, DeviceNet, etc.).
• Create final documentation packages for customers and technicians.
• Provide technical support to projects and cross-functional teams.
