Job description

Audit Senior – Public & Private Company Audits
Location: Houston / The Woodlands, Texas
Working Arrangement:

Primarily onsite, with potential hybrid flexibility

Looking for more from your next Audit Senior opportunity?

Are you an experienced Audit Senior who enjoys taking ownership of engagements but wants a more supportive, collaborative environment and greater access to senior leadership?

Prethetically you're looking to broaden your technical experience, work with publicly traded businesses, or join a firm where building relationships with colleagues is just as important as delivering high-quality audits.

AJ Chambers is partnering with an established public accounting practice in the Houston area seeking an experienced Audit Senior to join its assurance team.

This is an opportunity to combine hands-on audit leadership with exposure to PCAOB engagements, SEC reporting and a diverse portfolio of public and private companies, all within a friendly and supportive office environment.

The Opportunity – Take Ownership and Make an Impact

You’ll play an important role in delivering external audit engagements, working directly with clients and supporting junior auditors throughout the audit process.

The firm's client portfolio spans industries including technology, energy, healthcare, life sciences, manufacturing, distribution and financial services.

You’ll also have opportunities to develop your expertise in complex public-company engagements, including 10-K audits, 10-Q reviews, IPOs, registration statements and other SEC-related transactions.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Leading external audit engagements from planning through completion.
  • Taking ownership of key audit areas, including revenue, equity, debt, investments and other complex financial statement accounts.
  • Performing and reviewing audit procedures in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable PCAOB/AICPA standards.
  • Supervising Audit Associates, reviewing workpapers and providing technical guidance.
  • Communicating directly with client finance teams and managing audit deliverables.
  • Identifying accounting, financial reporting and internal-control issues.
  • Working alongside Audit Managers and Partners to resolve technical matters.
  • Managing multiple engagements while maintaining high standards of audit quality.
  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members.
The Team & Culture – A Supportive Environment Where People Matter

A key attraction of this opportunity is the working environment.

The firm offers a friendly, collaborative and supportive office culture, where colleagues work closely together and experienced professionals are accessible.

Rather than feeling disconnected from leadership, you’ll have opportunities to work directly with Partners and experienced Managers, benefiting from their technical knowledge and guidance.

What you can expect:
  • Accessible leadership: Direct interaction with Partners and senior professionals.
  • Collaborative working: A team environment where colleagues support one another.
  • Friendly office atmosphere: An approachable workplace that values positive working relationships.
  • Team activities: Opportunities to socialize and build relationships with colleagues outside the office.
  • Professional development: Exposure to technically interesting engagements and experienced audit leadership.
  • Career progression: Opportunities to continue developing towards Audit Manager.

If you’re looking for a firm where you can contribute, develop and feel part of a team, this opportunity is worth exploring.

What We’re Looking For

We’re particularly interested in speaking with candidates who are currently operating, or have recently operated, at Audit Senior level within a U.S. public accounting firm.

  • Recent external audit experience at Senior level within public accounting.
  • Experience leading financial statement audit engagements.
  • Proven ability to supervise junior auditors and review audit workpapers.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and external auditing standards.
  • Experience managing client communication and audit deadlines.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Public-company audits and PCAOB auditing standards.
  • SEC reporting, including 10-Ks and 10-Qs.
  • Experience across multiple commercial industries.
  • CPA qualification or active progress towards licensure.

While public-company experience would be particularly valuable, experienced Audit Seniors with strong private-company audit backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

Salary, Benefits & Working Arrangements

Salary: $80,000–$110,000, depending on experience and existing Senior-level responsibilities.

Location: Houston / The Woodlands, Texas.

Working arrangement: Primarily onsite, with potential hybrid flexibility depending on individual circumstances and the firm’s requirements.

What the opportunity offers:
  • Direct access to experienced Partners and Managers.
  • A friendly, supportive and collaborative team.
  • Opportunities to participate in activities outside work.
  • Exposure to both public and private company audits.
  • Opportunities to develop PCAOB and SEC reporting expertise.
  • Continued professional development and career progression.

Further details regarding the benefits package and working arrangements will be discussed during the recruitment process.
