Job summary

Gelman LLP in Irvine, CA seeks a Senior Audit Manager to take full responsibility for a portfolio of the firm’s largest and most complex audits and reviews. You will lead and develop the audit team, oversee engagement planning through delivery, and partner with senior leadership to grow the practice.

You will mentor staff, manage budgets and client relationships, and ensure compliance with professional standards while pursuing a pathway toward partnership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; Master’s in Accounting preferred.
• Typically 8+ years of public accounting audit experience, including at least 2 years at the Manager level.
• Valid, active CPA license required.
• Proven ability to manage large, complex engagements and lead teams.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation, and client relationship skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
• Ability to work under time pressure in highly interruptive conditions.
• Professional, honest, ethical, proactive, and client service oriented.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for a portfolio of the firm’s largest and most complex audit clients.
• Build trusted-advisor relationships with client owners, executives, audit committees, and boards.
• Develop significant management letter comments and recommendations on internal controls.
• Proactively identify accounting and business advisory opportunities that add value for clients.
• Maintain client contact throughout the year, not only during engagement periods.
• Oversee all phases of multiple concurrent engagements, from planning through fieldwork, review, and delivery.
• Design the audit approach, including risk assessment, materiality, and internal control evaluation.
• Lead and oversee audits of ESOPs and employee benefit plans.
• Perform the technical “cold” review of financial statements, disclosures, and workpapers before partner sign-off.
• Anticipate and resolve complex accounting, auditing, and reporting issues with the engagement partner.
• Ensure compliance with firm quality control policies, standards, and independence rules.
• Manage engagement economics, including budgets, scope changes, billing, realization, and collections.
• Lead, mentor, and develop audit staff; conduct performance reviews.
• Lead A&A department initiatives, training programs, and process improvements.
• Participate in firm planning, recruiting, and quality control activities.
• Model professionalism, ethics, and the firm’s values for the entire team.
• Originate new clients and expand services to existing clients.
• Build and maintain a strong referral network of bankers, attorneys, and other professionals.
• Lead and deliver proposals and client presentations.
• Represent the firm through industry groups, community organizations, and publications.
• Develop the business development skills expected on a path to partnership.
