Job description

Position: Senior Attorney – Medical Malpractice Defense | Partnership Track
Location: Morristown, New Jersey (Hybrid)
Employment Type: Full-Time
About the Opportunity

Squadron Legal is recruiting on behalf of a respected and well-established New Jersey litigation firm seeking an experienced Senior Attorney to join its Medical Malpractice Defense practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney who has developed a strong foundation in litigation and is ready to take on greater responsibility, contribute to the growth of a practice, and play a meaningful role in mentoring and developing other attorneys.

The firm is seeking someone who is interested in a long-term path toward partnership and who brings not only strong legal and litigation skills, but also leadership experience and the ability to guide less experienced attorneys.

This role is designed for an experienced attorney who values quality and meaningful legal work and may prefer a more sustainable workload than a traditional high-billable-hour associate position. The attorney will have the opportunity to remain actively involved in sophisticated medical malpractice litigation while taking on a greater leadership and mentorship role within the practice.

Responsibilities
  • Handle and oversee medical malpractice defense matters from inception through resolution
  • Develop case strategy and exercise independent judgment on complex litigation matters
  • Draft and review pleadings, motions, legal memoranda, discovery, and other legal documents
  • Conduct and oversee legal research and analysis
  • Manage discovery and participate in depositions, court appearances, hearings, and other litigation proceedings
  • Assist with trial preparation and participate in trial-related matters
  • Review and provide guidance on the work of junior attorneys and legal staff
  • Mentor and develop less experienced attorneys, helping them strengthen their litigation skills and professional judgment
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on case strategy, client relationships, and practice development
  • Contribute to the continued growth and development of the firm's Medical Malpractice Defense practice
  • Take on increasing leadership responsibilities as part of a long-term partnership track
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the New Jersey Bar, or eligibility for admission
  • Significant litigation experience, preferably with experience in medical malpractice defense
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex litigation matters
  • Strong legal writing, research, analytical, and advocacy skills
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, or mentoring experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to provide thoughtful guidance and mentorship to junior attorneys
  • Strong judgment, professionalism, and ability to work independently
  • Interest in contributing to the long-term growth and success of a law firm
  • Genuine interest in pursuing a partnership opportunity
What This Opportunity Offers
  • Long-term partnership track for the right candidate
  • Opportunity to take on meaningful leadership and mentorship responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain an active litigation practice while helping develop junior attorneys
  • More sustainable workload designed for an experienced attorney who may not be seeking a traditional high-billable-hour associate role
  • Collaborative and supportive firm environment
  • 401(k)
  • Opportunity to have a meaningful voice in the continued growth of the practice
Compensation

The anticipated salary range is $185,000–$200,000 annually, with the overall compensation, bonus structure, and long-term opportunity to be discussed based on experience, qualifications, and the potential fit for the partnership track.

Additional information regarding the firm and the partnership opportunity will be shared during the recruitment process.
