Job summary

The Florida Department of Health seeks a Senior Attorney to join the Litigation Practice Group and the General Administrative, Regulatory, and Rule-Making Practice Group in Tallahassee. The attorney will handle litigation from discovery through trial, draft motions, conduct depositions, and supervise complex matters in state, and sometimes federal, courts.

The role requires Florida Bar membership, strong research and drafting skills, and the ability to work with senior leadership.

Qualifications

• Must be a member of the Florida Bar in good standing.
• Litigation, rulemaking, or administrative law experience is preferred but not required.
• Possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or relevant experience.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Department of Health in all courts of jurisdiction and manage a caseload from discovery through trial.
• Prepare motions and pleadings, conduct depositions, question witnesses, and protect confidential information; participate in hearings or trials.
• Provide statutory/regulatory interpretations and guidance; draft legal opinions and rules; advise staff on complex issues.
• Collaborate with senior leadership including the Chief Legal Counsels and General Counsel; contribute to a team-oriented legal office.
