Job summary

The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation is seeking a Senior Attorney to serve as the Department’s in-house legal advisor on employment matters, rulemaking, and related compliance. You will work with HR, respond to EEOC/FCHR inquiries, handle public records, and represent the Department in various forums.

Ideal candidates have at least two years of legal practice, Florida Bar membership, and strong litigation and drafting skills.

Qualifications

• Membership in good standing with The Florida Bar.
• At least two years of experience in the practice of law.
• Valid Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Serves as the Department’s in-house legal advisor to senior management on employment-related matters as well as rulemaking and development.
• Advises on disciplinary actions, ADA accommodations, FCHR and EEOC responses, Workers’ Compensation, FMLA, and veterans’ preference issues.
• Develops and provides internal training on employment-related laws and policies.
• Assists with public records matters and liaises with outside counsel on litigation.
• Develops litigation strategy and attends depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials.
• Represents the Department before various agencies and coordinates with the Office of the Attorney General.
• Provides briefings to senior leadership on issues handled by outside counsel and regulatory changes.
• Develops and drafts policies and rules; liaises with JAPC; files rules with DOS and oversees regulatory plans.
