Job summary

The New York City School Construction Authority (NYCSCA) is seeking a Senior Attorney to report to the General Counsel. You will guide legal strategies on contracts, construction litigation, and lien matters, supervising litigation and negotiations, and reviewing legislation impacting Authority projects.

You will coordinate with Legal, Construction Management, Real Estate, External Affairs, and Architecture & Engineering teams to ensure compliant design and construction of school facilities.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Active NY State Bar in good standing.
• Minimum six years of legal experience, including four years in construction, contracts or litigation.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Authority at mediations on construction contracts, disputes and other matters.
• Oversee construction litigation and lien foreclosure actions.
• Negotiate and draft license agreements, contracts, and memoranda of understanding.
• Conduct legal research and draft memos on legal issues with minimal direction to protect the Authority's interests.
• Provide general legal support to the Authority as required.
• Report to senior management on progress of matters handled.
• Review and recommend changes to policies and procedures to improve compliance.
• Provide legal advice pertaining to contract and project close out procedures.
