Insurance Coverage Litigation Associate / Counsel (California)

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced attorney with ideally 6+ years of experience to join its insurance coverage litigation practice. This role is well suited for a strong writer and analytical thinker who is proactive with their caseload, comfortable working independently, and eager to take on a leadership role on complex matters.

The practice represents domestic and international insurers in sophisticated insurance coverage disputes involving a wide range of liability policies, including commercial general liability. The team advises insurers supporting industries that are central to the Southern California economy, including construction, energy, entertainment, and maritime.

Responsibilities

• Analyze insurance policies and draft detailed coverage opinions, providing strategic coverage advice and recommendations to clients
• Conduct complex legal research and analysis and prepare memoranda
• Draft and review pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and supporting legal correspondence
• Prepare formal correspondence to opposing counsel and other parties
• Attend and participate in depositions, hearings, and mediations as needed

Education & Experience

• Strong academic credentials
• Admission to practice in California (required)
• Admission in additional jurisdictions—particularly Texas, New York, Washington, or Colorado—is a plus
• Ideally 6+ years of experience handling complex insurance coverage litigation
• Experience with commercial general liability matters
• Federal court experience preferred

Compensation

Attorney compensation for this position ranges from $200,000 – $225,000 annually, depending on experience, qualifications, practice focus, location, and other job‑related factors permitted by law. Candidates with additional experience may be considered for more senior roles with corresponding compensation.
