Alnylam Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, MA is seeking a qualified scientist to organize, conduct, and report non-GLP rodent toxicology, investigative, and PK/TK studies that support drug discovery and development.

This onsite role requires strong data management, proficiency with GraphPad Prism and Excel, and collaboration with Principal Investigators to complete study reports with high quality.

Qualifications

• BS in Biology or related field with 5+ years of rodent (rats and mice) experience; Masters with 3 years also acceptable.
• Experience in nonclinical drug discovery or development studies is a plus.
• Proficiency in dose administration to rodents (SC, IV, PO, IT, IM) and blood collection techniques.
• Strong data management and ability to generate high-quality study reports.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and performs pre-study activities with protocol development and animal ordering.
• Performs dosing, clinical observations, body weights, blood collection, necropsy, and tissue collection in mice and rats.
• Uses Excel and GraphPad Prism to collect and graph study data; performs QC checks on data.
• Writes first drafts of study reports and coordinates with Principal Investigators to finalize reports.
• Maintains compliant, safe working environment and adapts to changing priorities.

Job description

Overview

The qualified candidate is responsible for organizing, conducting, and reporting non-GLP rodent toxicology, investigative, and pharmacokinetics/toxicokinetic (PK/TK) studies that support drug discovery and development. An understanding and comprehension of SOPs, techniques, nomenclature etc. are expected as they relate specifically to job performance.

This position is onsiteand will be primarily located in Cambridge MA.

Key Responsibilities

• Organizes and performs pre-study activities (e.g. working with Contributing Scientists on protocol development, test article procurement, and animal ordering)
• Performs dose calculations and formulates dosing solutions
• Performs study procedures (dosing, clinical signs, body weights, blood collections, necropsy, and tissue collections) on mice and rats
• Uses Excel spreadsheets and/or other electronic data capture systems to collect study data
• Perform QC checks on study data
• Writes first drafts of study reports and works with Principal Investigators to complete study reports
• Uses Excel or GraphPad Prism to graph key study parameters
• Communicates effectively at group meetings, research meetings, or other meetings as assigned and the ability to effectively manage conflict
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, regulations and adapt quickly to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment
• Performs other duties as assigned by manager

Qualifications

• BS in Biology or related field with at least 5 or more years or Masters degree with 3 years of relevant experience in laboratory rodent (rats and mice) research with experience in conducting nonclinical drug discovery or development studies a plus
• Exceptional organizational skills and ability to generate high quality data
• Proficiency in dose administration to rats and mice (SC, IV, PO, IT, and IM)
• Proficiency in blood collection techniques in rodents (e.g. tail vein, submandibular, and terminal collection)
• Ability to discern and document abnormal behavior and clinical signs in rats and mice
• Mathematics skills adequate for calculating dilutions and dose projections
• Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and GraphPad Prism. Previous experience with electronic data capture systems (e.g. Xybion, Provantis) a plus
• Sufficient knowledge of rat and mouse anatomy to conduct necropsies and tissue collections
• Must be flexible, open to new tasks and challenges and able to work on tight deadlines
• Demonstrated understanding of basic and applied research
• Knowledge of and adherence to all applicable Animal Welfare Guidelines
• Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification a plus
• Effective communication skills within and across teams and management (written and verbal)
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and move heavy objects
• Must be able to work in a standing position for prolonged periods of time while performing repetitive motion tasks.
• Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work within a team-based system.
• Candidate must have a strong sense of personal accountability and be highly organized/detail oriented.

U.S. Pay Range

$80,000.00 - $120,000.00

The pay range reflects the full-time base salary range we expect to pay for this role at the time of posting. Base pay will be determined based on a number of factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, skills, and education. This role is eligible for an annual short-term incentive award (e.g., bonus or sales incentive) and an annual long-term incentive award (e.g., equity).
