Job summary

The Atlantic seeks a Senior Associate Editor to join the newsroom in expanding coverage of foreign affairs and national security. The editor will assign and edit essays and analysis from contributors and freelancers, turning around pieces quickly while collaborating with other editors.

Ideal candidates bring strong line editing, initiative in coverage, and excellent judgment. Some familiarity with American foreign policy and global affairs is helpful, with night, early-morning, and weekend work

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assign and edit coverage of major developing stories
• Spot opportunities to commission original essays and reporting
• Scout for appropriate contributors when breaking news calls for regional expertise
• Coordinate with other teams, including art, copy, fact-check, and audience
