Job summary

The Atlantic seeks an experienced editor to lead our newsletters team in Washington, D.C. or New York City. You will oversee staff writers, shape stories from concept to publish, and collaborate with editors to craft sharp headlines and compelling angles.

Some writing and special projects are also part of the role. You will edit analysis, essays, and reporting across topics, stay deeply engaged with current events, and guide ambitious writers through quick turnarounds while managing deadlines

Qualifications

• 10 years of editing experience.
• Stellar work ethic and exceptional time management.
• Magazine sensibility with a passion for ideas-based journalism.
• Eagerness to collaborate and a sense of urgency to publish stories that guide the conversation.
• Knowledge of the current newsletter landscape is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Oversee staff writers and shepherd stories from start to finish.
• Suggest story ideas and sharpen angles; edit and write vivid headlines.
• Assist in execution of special projects and occasional writing.
• Work with editors to ensure quick turnarounds and high-quality storytelling.
