Job summary

CleanCapital in New York, NY is seeking a Senior Associate, Development to manage the pipeline of solar and energy storage projects and oversee development partnerships. You will report to the Director of Development and support projects from origination through Notice to Proceed, with independent execution across disciplines.

The role requires solar/storage development experience, strong project management, and the ability to handle complex tasks with minimal oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, building science, or relevant field.
• 5+ years of experience in renewable energy development with a proven track record.
• Experience with solar energy, battery storage, and related technologies.
• PMP certification, MBA, or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead full life cycle development of solar and storage projects from early development to Notice to Proceed (NTP).
• Serve as day-to-day liaison with partners on routine project and partnership needs.

About this Role

The Senior Associate, Development will be responsible for managing development of CleanCapital’s pipeline of solar and energy storage projects as well as overseeing its development partnerships. This role will report to the Director of Development and support new projects from origination through Notice to Proceed (NTP). The candidate is expected to have solar or storage development project experience and will be expected to complete complex tasks independently with minimal oversight and input from their supervisor. This position will work across disciplines, supporting the company’s acquisitions, investments, capital markets, business development, and asset management groups. The Senior Associate, Development will support vital growth of gigawatt and gigawatt-hour scale new renewable energy projects. This is a remote position with preference given to candidates located in the Chicago metropolitan area or the broader Illinois market.

Responsibilities

• Lead full life cycle development of solar and storage projects, from early development to Notice to Proceed (NTP)
• Serve as the day-to-day liaison with partners on routine project and partnership needs
• Communicate, coordinate, and manage relevant project parties internally and externally
• Initiate and manage new project diligence across company verticals, including legal, interconnection, finance, engineering, environmental, permitting, commercial, policy, and investment/revenue
• Support diligence reviews across company departments
• Work collaboratively across verticals to evaluate and improve project development and management processes and associated resources while maintaining positive partner relationships
• Manage project development schedules and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of solar and storage development projects

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in engineering, building science, or relevant field
• 5 or more years of experience in renewable energy development with a proven track record of taking projects from site control to Notice to Proceed
• Experience with solar energy, battery storage, and related technologies
• Proven project management skills
• Experience in Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Excel modeling skills preferred
• Proven artificial intelligence literacy, including understanding AI strengths, limitations, and ethical considerations
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to take ideas and run with them from concept to conclusion
• Technical understanding of project development clean energy business processes
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with superiors, peers, partners, and other stakeholders
• Excellent interpersonal skills while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Master of Business Administration (MBA), or equivalent certification/experience (preferred)
• Ability to work at a computer for most of the day
• Ability to participate in conference calls and travel to site visits, permitting meetings, and team retreats on a time-to-time basis
