Job description

Cancer is the number one cause of death for commercially insured Americans and the top cost driver for health plans. And, cancer patients are struggling.

CancerNavigator is a white-glove, end-to-end, cancer support service for patients and their families. We work with health plans across the country to provide 1-1 support to members facing a cancer diagnosis. All of our support is delivered through dedicated Oncology Certified Nurses, who work with members to catch cancer early, get them to fantastic experts for their care, and help them through the thousands of other problems patients and their families face.

Join us to help serve cancer patients in their hour of need.

The Role

The most important priorities of a data analytics senior associate are to sustain and improve our identification of cancer patients for outreach via our “datafeed” process, and to generate high-quality, quantitative analyses to help patients get to great experts for their cancer care. Responsibilities include implementing new clients’ datasets, working with the client success team to ensure timely and accurate processing of this data, executing investigations into data issues, and identifying and carrying out process improvements to the current datafeed system. Additionally, there will be opportunities to work with the team to create analyses for internal researcher and nurse use.

With more detail, the senior associate will support the following efforts:

  • Analyzing Claims Feeds to Identify New Patients: In order to serve newly diagnosed cancer patients, we must first identify them. CancerNavigator utilizes claims feeds to find cancer patients as quickly as possible – a data senior associate will work to facilitate and improve this daily process.
  • Implementing New Clients: As CancerNavigator continues to grow, we continue to work with our client success team to onboard new clients’ datasets. The senior associate will help serve as a liaison between our teams, and ensure that the data provided is sufficient for our identification process.
  • Creating Quantitative Analyses to Assist Navigation: One of our primary, ongoing goals is to improve the analytics that nurses rely on for their patient education and decision making. This includes analyses related to patient volume, surgical volume, early identification, and other important research priorities. These analyses require literature reviews, methodology development, and application of medical research to current and future datasets.

The Requirements

The right person for this role would be excited to jump in immediately and take on a lot of responsibility. More specifically, we are looking for someone with:

  • 2 years of professional experience in SQL analytics
  • Strong proficiency in mySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server
  • Python experience preferred
  • Experience with medical claims/healthcare data
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical individuals
  • Excel and Tableau experience (preferred)

Our Culture & Values, In Brief

We’re building a company where what we do matters. The goal couldn’t be clearer – serve cancer patients. As the business grows, and the work becomes more complex, we need to become more, not less, committed to why we are doing this.

We have three company values, which guide our company:

  • Patients first, always: In everything we do, we put the cancer patient (and their families) first; we exist to serve them in their most urgent moments.
  • Respect for our responsibility: We strive, as a team, to respect the gravity of the responsibility we bear to patients, always acting and producing in a way that is worthy of the trust they have placed in us.
  • Kindness to and respect for others: We treat our teammates well, no exceptions. We are one team.

At CancerNavigator, we believe a well-rounded and diverse team is a key to our success. We never

discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, or marital, veteran, or disability status.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive base salary, dependent on qualifications and experience
  • Remote-first work; live where you want
  • All-company on-sites a few times a year in Washington D.C. (HQ) or other locations
  • Medical and Dental Insurance (80% employer paid), Vision Insurance (100% employer paid), Healthcare and Dependent Care FSA
  • Group Life and AD&D Insurance (Involuntary with the option to buy-up coverage)
  • Unlimited PTO
