Job summary

Meow Wolf is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to join its four‑person legal team. You will serve as a generalist, delivering expert guidance on a wide range of commercial matters including licensing, intellectual property, data privacy, labor relations, merchandising, events, and governance for platforms and international initiatives.

Reporting to the General Counsel, you will draft and negotiate contracts, build scalable processes, and collaborate with Product, Engineering, Marketing, HR

Qualifications

• JD from an accredited law school and active state bar.
• At least 15 years of legal experience, including a minimum of 10 years practicing in-house at a media company.
• Willingness to be an active participant in all levels of work activity, learn new areas quickly and operate with limited supervision.
• Broad legal knowledge, including intellectual property, real estate, construction, corporate governance, data privacy, content licensing and commercial contracts. Experience with labor relations and the USPTO is a plus.
• Exceptional drafting and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively across many different areas and levels of the company.
• High degree of professional ethics, integrity and gravitas, capable of engendering confidence of senior management and all employees.
• Excellent judgment, leadership and analytical skills. Ability to anticipate legal issues and risks.
• Collaboration - be a willing and enthusiastic participant in a collaborative culture supporting both creative and management stakeholders.
• Demonstrated, solid proficiency in time management skills and reviewing and processing large amounts of data.
• Resilient, focused problem solver and self-starter, with ability to multitask and prioritize in a complex, occasionally ambiguous environment where processes may not yet be defined.

Responsibilities

• Offer legal and strategic advice across areas including IP, real estate, construction, entertainment agreements and litigation, with end-to-end ownership.
• Draft, review and negotiate bespoke contracts and policies.
• Provide actionable legal advice to business teams and build relationships across departments, including products, engineering, marketing, HR, exhibition development, information security and finance.
• Serve as legal advisor to local exhibitions on employee relations, local rules and operational issues.
• Assist with due diligence and discovery; manage external counsel in litigation.
• Help build and refine legal processes, templates and policies as the company scales.
