Job summary

SCB seeks a Senior Architectural Designer to join our Boston office. The role combines design leadership with client engagement and market-facing responsibilities, championing design excellence across projects and cultivating relationships with clients and industry partners.

You will contribute to design studies, drawings, and visualizations under principal supervision. You will work with multidisciplinary teams to develop design concepts, manage project timelines, and advance the project

Qualifications

  • Accredited professional degree in architecture.
  • 10+ years post-graduate, full-time working experience in an architectural firm.
  • Licensed Architect in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design leadership on project work and within the studio.
  • Engage with clients to understand project needs and generate design concepts accordingly.
  • Establish a project design philosophy that is responsive to client and firm goals of performance, craft, and beauty.
  • Implement project design philosophy and work toward the successful execution of the project through design and construction phases.
  • Develop design and technical drawings, visualizations, and studies in collaboration with project leaders.
  • Manage time and organize tasks effectively to meet project deadlines, including oversight of junior team members.
  • Participate in team meetings and client presentations, working closely with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Research and promote opportunities for new or innovative system applications; proactively look for and implement processes to improve work product and efficiency.
  • Engage with the project and studio team with a positive, team-first attitude.
  • Represent SCB to clients in a manner that generates trust and cultivates long-term relationships.
  • Foster a culture of design excellence and continually raise standards for design process, communication, and deliverables.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with developers, owners, brokers, consultants, and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with firm leadership on market positioning, pursuit strategy, and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Participate in networking events, conferences, industry organizations, and community engagement efforts.
  • Contribute to proposal development, interviews, thought leadership, and pursuit strategies

Education

Job description

SCB is seeking talented a Senior Architectural Designer to join our Boston office. We’re a national, multi-disciplinary design firm with a focus on multi-family residential, adaptive reuse, academic, and aviation projects.

We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about design, collaborative by nature, and possess an advanced understanding of building materials, systems, detailing, and construction methods. You will have the opportunity to work with a team of talented professionals on all aspects of project design and development under the direct supervision of a Principal. You will also closely collaborate with the project team, including consultants, to prepare design studies, graphic representations, technical drawings, studies, and other materials related to architectural design. You will be responsible for overall project design while building lasting client relationships.


This role combines design leadership with client engagement, and market-facing responsibilities. The candidate will champion design excellence across projects while cultivating relationships, identifying new opportunities, and helping shape the future direction of the practice.


Your Qualifications


  • Accredited professional degree in architecture

  • 10+ years post-graduate, full-time working experience in an architectural firm

  • Licensed Architect in the U.S.

  • A strong design sensibility and attention to detail

  • Passion for design, a pulse on emerging trends, and a developed point of view about your work

  • Enthusiasm for utilizing a diverse set of approaches to creative problem solving

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic, hands-on, creative environment

  • Relationship builder who enjoys engaging with clients and industry partners

  • Collaborative leader capable of inspiring teams and bringing people together around a shared vision

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Working knowledge of, and demonstrated experience with, local zoning ordinances and building codes

  • Technical knowledge of building systems, material assemblies, and engineering concepts

  • Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Enscape, Sketchup or Rhino, Affinity Publisher/Photo and Adobe Creative Suite

  • Mixed-use, Multi-family Residential, Adaptive Reuse, Commercial Office or Life Science project experience preferred

  • Salary: $100,000 - $150,000 depending on experience
