Job summary

Remitly is seeking a Principal Engineer for Core Transfer Experience to own the technical vision across core transfer flows, conversational surfaces, and regional experiences. You will lead architecture decisions, modernize the stack, and drive reliability and AI-enabled capabilities at scale.

Qualifications

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with large-scale distributed systems.
• Experience with backend APIs, event-driven architectures, and data models.
• Client-side experience on mobile (React Native) or web.

Responsibilities

• Set Technical Vision & Strategy Across the Org
• Own multi-year technical strategy aligning core transfer, conversational surfaces, and regional teams.
• Partner with GM, engineering managers, product, and design to align technical strategy with business outcomes.
• Lead domain-level design reviews and author RFCs and architecture decisions.
• Modernize the Core Transfer Architecture by evolving the send flow and reducing legacy coupling.
• Make hard trade-off calls on evolve-in-place vs rebuild and regional consistency vs local flexibility.
• Design safe migration paths that ship incrementally without downtime.
• Raise reliability, latency, and quality standards; define SLOs and observability.
• Drive operational excellence: capacity planning, on-call hygiene, blameless post-mortems.
• Treat client-side quality with same rigor as backend.
• Enable AI-native capabilities and foundations for new features.
• Identify AI opportunities and establish practices for building and reviewing AI.
• Ensure experimentation velocity with architectures to test and ship quickly.
• Multiply the Engineering Organization by mentoring staff and hands-on contributions.
• Build bridges with payments, disbursements, risk, platform teams.
