Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to architect and develop core software components and libraries for avionics platforms. The role offers a hybrid schedule in Cedar Rapids, IA or Huntsville, AL, with DO-178 certification focus and customer-facing responsibilities.

You will drive technical direction, develop certification artifacts, and collaborate across engineering, program leadership, and customers to deliver robust, certifiable software solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 5+ years of experience or an advanced degree with 3+ years.
• Experience designing software architectures or platform‑level components in aerospace or safety‑critical domains.
• Proven ability to lead technical execution and engage customers.

Responsibilities

• Architect and develop core software components, libraries, and tooling for avionics systems.
• Drive technical direction and verify safety‑critical software (DO-178) activities.
• Create software requirements, decomposition, and traceability across complex systems.
• Develop and verify software using modern C++ and OO design.
• Produce DO‑178 certification artifacts, including DAL A artifacts.
• Support certification efforts with customers and regulators.
• Lead peer reviews to ensure quality and compliance across lifecycles.
• Collaborate with engineering, leadership, and customers to align solutions.
