Job summary

Cari seeks a senior architect to lead the design and implementation of a bank-facing API platform and white-labeled wallet. You will write production code, define service boundaries, and guide architecture decisions across B2B and B2B2C deployments in a remote-first fintech environment.

You will ensure ledger integrity, security, and regulatory diligence while mentoring engineers and shaping a scalable, multi-tenant architecture.

Qualifications

• Fintech or banking is required: 12+ years building production systems.
• Hands-on production experience with Kafka, Restate, Redis, AWS EKS, and Terraform.
• 3+ years as a hands-on architect or principal engineer, with scale across many institutional customers.
• Shipped both a partner-facing API platform (B2B) and a white-labeled/B2C product delivered through partners.
• Deep TypeScript/Node.js and PostgreSQL; comfortable reviewing React work.
• Strong money-movement correctness: idempotency, sagas, outbox patterns, state machines, ledgers, reconciliation.
• API and identity security: OAuth 2.0/OIDC, mutual TLS, API key rotation, signed webhooks, OWASP practices.
• Bank vendor due diligence and regulatory/security awareness (SOC 2, etc.).
• Designs for operability: instrumentation, failure modes, runbooks.
• Clear written communication; RFCs and bank-facing architecture docs are core.

Responsibilities

• Write production code for most sprints and own at least one product capability.
• Own the architecture of a scalable banking platform with service boundaries and tenancy patterns.
• Lead the RFC process and design reviews and document durable decisions.
• Own the bank API contract (B2B) with versioning, idempotency, webhooks, and rate-limiting.
• Own the wallet architecture across deployment models (B2B2C) with multi-tenant SaaS and on-prem options.
• Design for ledger integrity end-to-end: state machines, reconciliation, drift detection.
• Turn non-functional requirements into built systems: resilience, performance, security.
• Be the technical counterpart for banks: architecture walkthroughs, security questionnaires.
• Lead secure development: threat modeling, pen tests, SOC 2 evidence, supply-chain controls.
• Mentor senior engineers and raise the bar for AI-assisted development.
