Job summary

Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield is seeking an Architect to guide the architectural integrity of complex systems across the enterprise, shaping technical direction and ensuring alignment with business outcomes, risk, and lifecycle health.

The role defines logical architecture, guardrails, and cross-system interactions, while leading AI-enabled solutions and collaborating with product, engineering, data, security, and operations to deliver scalable, compliant platforms.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 7 years in related roles including security and controls.
• Minimum 4 years in cloud architecture and system integration.
• Proven ability to guide complex technical systems and communicate clearly.
• Expert knowledge of enterprise network architecture and security practices.
• Experience migrating to public cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience with AI, retrieval-augmented solutions, or agent-based systems.
• Knowledge across multiple domains (data, security, cloud, platform).

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve logical architecture and solution intent.
• Define infrastructure capabilities, nonfunctional requirements, and risk treatments.
• Engage in discovery, portfolio, and product planning before investments.
• Lead architectural decisions with clear documentation of trade-offs.
• Determine AI-appropriate patterns and risk-aligned architecture.
• Apply standards, guardrails, and reuse through enterprise principles.
• Maintain architecture models, risks, and conformance evidence.
• Partner with product, engineering, data, security, and operations.
