Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking an experienced Senior Archaeologist with 8 years of CRM field and project management experience in California to join our Environmental Services Cultural Resources Team. This full-time position offers opportunities to manage projects, oversee field teams, coordinate with clients and regulatory agencies, and mentor junior staff. The successful candidate will lead all aspects of cultural resource investigations, including research, survey, excavation, monitoring, analysis, and reporting, ensuring compliance with CEQA, Section 106 of the NHPA, and other regulations.

Our team supports a diverse range of projects, including: Statewide utility compliance programs; Emergency fire response projects; Hydroelectric relicensing studies; and CEQA and Section 106 compliance projects.

Your Responsibilities
  1. Serve as a Project Manager and/or Principal Investigator for cultural resource investigations.
  2. Lead pedestrian surveys, testing, data recovery, construction monitoring, and mitigation efforts.
  3. Develop research designs, work plans, and field methodologies for compliance-driven projects.
  4. Coordinate with agencies, tribal representatives, and clients to ensure regulatory compliance.
  5. Mentor and supervise junior archaeologists in field methods, data collection, and technical writing.
  6. Oversee artifact analysis, laboratory processing, and curation efforts.
  7. Prepare and review technical reports, site forms (DPR 523), and treatment plans.
  8. Develop budgets, schedules, and scopes of work for cultural resource projects.
  9. Ensure compliance with CEQA, NHPA (Section 106), ARPA, NAGPRA, and other regulations.
  10. Conduct quality control reviews of documentation and reporting.
  11. Engage in business development, including proposal writing and client outreach.
  12. Promote health and safety standards in all operations.
Qualifications
General Qualifications
  • Must reside in Southern California and be available for regional travel.
  • Ability to conduct physically demanding fieldwork.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills.
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and GIS tools.
Professional Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field (Required).
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification (Preferred).
  • 8 years of CRM experience in California, including project management.
  • Experience leading field crews and coordinating with agencies and tribes.
  • Familiarity with California prehistoric and historic material culture.
  • Proficiency in site recording and DPR 523 forms.
  • Experience with GPS, GIS mapping, and digital data collection tools.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Experience in utility projects and infrastructure development (preferred).
