Job summary

RK&K is seeking a SOI-qualified archaeological principal investigator for the Southeast region, based in Florida. Travel to out-of-state sites may be required.

The PI will lead all phases of archaeology projects, supervise field crews, and ensure QA/QC of technical reports while advising on Section 106 NHPA and NEPA compliance. The role emphasizes strong research, technical writing, communication skills, and collaboration with engineers, historians, and planners across RK&K.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related field.
• 8–15 years of archaeological experience in Florida.
• 5+ years of archaeological project management experience.
• SOI-qualified in archaeology.
• RPA certification.
• Experience with precontact and historic period archaeology.
• Expertise with Section 106 NHPA consultation.
• Understanding of NEPA and Section 4(f).
• Ability to work independently and in teams with engineers and planners.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Fluent with Microsoft Office.
• Experience on FDOT projects.
• Ability to pass a background check.
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead all phases of archaeological investigations throughout Florida.
• Develop proposals and supervise field staff.
• Oversee artifact analysis and QA/QC of reports.
• Serve as subject matter expert for Section 106 NHPA and regulatory requirements.
• Draft Section 106 agreement documents.
• Contribute to NEPA documents and Section 4(f) evaluations.
• Assist regional planners and staff with business development and client outreach.
