Job summary

Eocene Environmental Group, Inc. is seeking an Archaeologist V to serve as Principal Investigator for cultural resource projects in New Mexico. You will apply field methodologies, design studies, interpret data, and ensure regulatory compliance across projects in the Albuquerque area.

Minimum 12 years of relevant experience and a Master’s degree are required, with proficiency in ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123. This on-call position may transition to part-time permanent based on needs.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field.
• Listed in the New Mexico SHPO Directory at the Principal Investigator/Project Director level.
• Minimum 12 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in prehistoric and/or historic archaeology in assigned project regions.
• Strong navigation skills (GPS/compass) and ability to operate 4WD vehicles over rough terrain.
• Clear communication, organization, accuracy, motivation, dependability.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Principal Investigator for assigned projects and reports.
• Provide subject matter expertise in New Mexico archaeology, including field methodologies, research design, data interpretation, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct Class III/Phase I cultural resource surveys and independently document archaeological sites and IOs/IFs.
• Conduct Testing/Phase 2 and Data Recoveries/Phase 3 as needed.
• Prepare draft deliverables (reports, excavation/testing logs, site forms), and support submission to agencies.
• Utilize field technology (ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 paired with sub-meter GPS receivers) for data collection.
• Collect GPS and other geospatial data with sub-meter accuracy; verify site locations.
• Participate in/lead project meetings; maintain regular attendance and communication.
• Adhere to safety protocols and company culture of safety and compliance.
