This is a career opportunity for a senior cultural technical resources leader for a leading environmental consulting firm providing NEPA analyses, technical studies, and project permitting to a wide variety of private and federal, state, and local government clients in the western U.S. The individual will lead cultural resources projects and selected business development opportunities and provide successful and independent management of archaeological and historical resources projects, including direction of large technical and field studies and assembly, supervision, and direction of an established cultural resources team.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Technical resource lead and / or principal investigator for complex, high profile cultural resource investigations for a variety of clients and sectors including work in the utilities industry (power and gas), transportation, renewable energy, and local government.
  • Mentor, supervise, and technical and operations resources for staff and senior project managers. Grow and procure a southwester-based cultural resources team.
  • Program management and financial management for key client programs, possibly multidisciplinary management.
  • Ensuring the delivery of high-quality technical products through implementation and of quality review and independent review protocols.
  • Lead business development and marketing by building new client relationships and maintaining existing ones.
  • Lead technical elements of proposal development, including scope, budget, and schedule to ensure complete satisfaction.
  • Maintain a high professional profile externally through membership in professional organizations, continually increasing client contact base.
  • Serve in a client-facing and internal-facing leadership position for Stantec. Represent cultural resources strategy and growth in the southwestern market.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Professional writing, problem solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience leading and conducting Phase I and II Cultural Resource Surveys in the southwest.
  • Proven experience of Determinations of Eligibility for National Register of Historic Places and California Register of Historical Resources.
  • Permitted in both Arizona and New Mexico on both State and Federal Lands, or ability to obtain permitting within 6 months of hire
  • Impact Assessment of Project Alternatives on Cultural Resources. - Section 106 and 110 (NHPA) Consultation.
  • Memoranda of Agreement and Programmatic Agreements.
  • Data Recovery and Monitoring Plans.
  • Historic Property Treatment Plans.
  • Ethnographic Research.
  • Native American Consultation.
  • NAGPRA Consultation.
  • Lead for Construction Monitoring Coordination and Field Coordination.
  • Knowledge GIS / GPS and ability to direct others to record and create maps in GIS.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Prior to employment with Stantec, this position may require the successful completion of a physical and drug screen.

Education and Experience

  • MA / MS in cultural resources or archaeology, especially southwestern archaeology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the application and interpretation of Arizona, New Mexico and other state and federal laws and regulations for large and complex projects.
  • Minimum 10 years supervisory, management, and team-oriented experience in consulting acquired over at least 10-15 years of progressively responsible cultural resources positions.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
