Job summary

Upstart is seeking an experienced Software Engineer for ML-driven products. You will design and build user-facing ML features using LLMs, prototype high-impact experiences with cross-functional partners, and own the architecture for scalable ML systems.

You will collaborate across platform, infra, and compliance to ensure safe, fair, and performant deployments, while shipping end-to-end ML solutions and APIs for user-facing applications.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of software engineering experience, with 2+ years on ML-driven products or intelligent systems.
• Experience with backend Python and cloud-native tooling (Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform).
• Experience integrating LLMs or ML models into production systems via APIs and user-facing apps.

Responsibilities

• Design and build user-facing ML features that harness LLMs and generative AI.
• Partner with product, design, and ML research to prototype high-impact ML-powered experiences.
• Own architecture and implementation for ML systems, balancing latency, observability, and iteration speed.
• Build scalable services and APIs that present model outputs in trustworthy, intuitive ways.
