Job summary

Homeward is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to integrate AI across our products. You will build with LLMs, design robust tooling, and work with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to deliver scalable AI solutions.

The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with backend systems and production-grade AI, and thrives in a fast-paced, remote-first environment. This role is based in Austin, TX and does not sponsor visas.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of back-end development experience.
• Production experience with AI/ML systems and reliability.
• Experience with LLM APIs, prompts, and context management.

Responsibilities

• Have an immediate impact on how Homeward builds with AI.
• Design, build, and maintain AI-powered features across products.
• Create reusable tooling for accessing and operating LLMs in production.
• Improve observability, monitoring, and evaluation of AI features.
• Tackle hard problems using LLMs/ML to solve business needs.
• Prototype quickly and hand off to engineers for shipping.
• Shape patterns for building with AI and enable others.
• Evaluate new models/tools and guide adoption.
• Leverage AI coding assistants in daily workflows.
• Write automated tests and participate in code reviews.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Data teams.
