Job summary

Addepar is seeking a Staff Applied AI Engineer to set the technical direction for AI work, build production-grade AI capabilities, and partner with core engineering to ship solutions for clients. You’ll own architecture, evaluation, and patterns for scalable AI systems.

You will directly engage with clients on complex engagements, balance speed and reliability, and mentor other engineers while shaping product roadmaps and internal platforms.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience with Python (team's primary language).
• Deep experience building and operating AI/LLM-powered systems in production: agent architectures, multi-model orchestration, evaluation at scale.
• Track record of designing technical systems that other engineers build on.
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar).
• Experience taking products from zero to one and delivering to customers.
• Experience working directly with customers or external stakeholders.
• Strong judgment in ambiguous, high-stakes environments.
• Ability to lead technical direction without formal authority.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for AI engineering across the team and define architecture patterns.
• Design the AI platform layer, including shared agent frameworks, tools, and evaluation infra.
• Work directly with clients on complex engagements to design AI capabilities for new workflows.
• Determine production readiness and balance speed with reliability.
• Drive handoffs from prototype to product and generalize client-specific capabilities.
• Lead production quality for AI systems with observability and SLOs.
• Mentor and grow AI and full-stack engineers; set technical and cultural bar.
• Translate client learnings into roadmap priorities.
