Job summary

Suhner USA in Rome, GA, part of the Suhner group, seeks an analytical, hands‑on Applications Engineer to own the technical side of customer spindle and toolholder applications, sizing solutions from quote through installation, and coordinating with outside sales, reps, customers and internal engineering and service teams.

You will perform speeds and feeds calculations, read GD&T, prepare technical proposals, support installation and startup, deliver demonstrations and training, and provide field

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field; equivalent experience considered.
• 7–8 years of industry experience in machine tools, spindles, tooling or manufacturing tech.
• Strong ability to read technical drawings, including GD&T.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD, MS Office, Adobe, and ERP/CRM systems.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills for technical and executive audiences.
• Ability to perform mechanical calculations and basic geometric/algebraic computations.
• Understanding of manufacturing procedures and metal cutting tool applications.

Responsibilities

• Review customer applications and machining requirements to recommend spindles, toolholders and machining units.
• Perform mechanical calculations (speeds, feeds, torque, power) to size and validate solutions.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T, and provide machine design support in SolidWorks.
• Provide technical and engineering support to sales, reps and customers by phone, email and on-site.
• Prepare technical proposals, quotes and estimates, and support order processing.
• Support installation, start-up and troubleshooting at customer sites in coordination with service center.
• Deliver technical presentations, product demonstrations and customer training.
• Represent the company at trade shows and exhibitions.
• Provide field feedback to guide product research, development and sales plans.
• Maintain application records in ERP/CRM systems.
• Collaborate with sales, engineering, service and production.
