Job summary

American Power Innovations in Tulsa, OK seeks an Applications Engineer to develop cost estimates for electrical building projects, including expansions and upgrades. You will analyze drawings, collaborate with engineering and procurement, and refine projections with a focus on accuracy and value engineering.

The role requires 3–5 years in cost estimation for large-scale infrastructure, strong knowledge of power distribution equipment, and proficiency with estimating software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, preferred
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in cost estimation, in data center, mission-critical, or large-scale infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, controls, and power distribution equipment.
• Background with low voltage and medium voltage electrical components such as VFDs, switchgear, and MCCs highly preferred
• Experience with estimating software and tools.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret project specifications and technical documents.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills for internal and external interactions
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple projects, and meet tight deadlines.
• Familiarity with industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive cost estimates for electrical building projects, including expansion and upgrades.
• Analyze project requirements, drawings, and specifications to determine scope, materials, and labor needs.
• Collaborate with engineering, procurement, and project management teams to refine cost projections and ensure accuracy.
• Demonstrate foresight in evaluating upcoming tasks to identify potential challenges, long-duration activities, or special requirements, while maintaining flexibility to reprioritize in response to evolving sales demands.
• Source and evaluate pricing from vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers ensure cost- effectiveness.
• Identify and mitigate potential cost risks and recommend value engineering solutions.
• Prepare and present cost estimates to stakeholders, including senior management and clients.
• Maintain up-to-date database of costs, trends, and market conditions relevant to each market that we work with.
• Assist in the development of bid proposals, contract negotiations, and procurement strategies.
• Work with CRM software to manage quote timelines and data.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company policies throughout the estimation process.
