Job summary

Michigan Medicine is seeking an Applications Senior Programmer to design, develop, and maintain complex, database-driven applications that support the cardiovascular registry efforts (BMC2). The role emphasizes SQL, data pipelines, and backend services, with occasional frontend work and light server administration.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/IS or related field or equivalent experience.
• Significant experience in application development with a strong focus on SQL and relational databases.
• Advanced SQL proficiency, including query optimization and complex data transformations.
• Experience developing applications using PHP and/or Python.
• Strong understanding of data pipeline concepts and data lifecycle management.
• Experience with Git-based version control workflows.
• Working knowledge of Docker and Linux server environments.
• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and effective communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain complex, database-driven applications and services.
• Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and data models for reporting and operations.
• Build, maintain, and monitor data pipelines for ingesting and delivering data across systems.
• Develop backend services and APIs using PHP and Python; contribute to full-stack development as needed.
• Manage source code with Git and follow best practices for reviews.
• Ensure HIPAA/PHI data handling requirements are met and compliant.
• Package, deploy, and maintain apps using Docker; perform light server maintenance.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Ensure performance, scalability, reliability, and data integrity.
• Create technical documentation for applications and data flows.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues independently.
