General Motors is seeking a Senior Application Packaging & Modernization Engineer to define, build, and continuously improve how end-user applications are packaged, tested, and deployed enterprise-wide. You will optimize SCCM/Intune/JAMF workflows, automate packaging, and drive scalable deployment strategies across Windows, macOS, and Linux.

The Senior Application Packaging & Modernization Engineer is responsible for defining, building, and continuously improving how General Motors packages, tests, deploys, updates, and maintains end-user applications across the enterprise. This role will optimize GM’s current application distribution capabilities, which include SCCM/Configuration Manager, Microsoft Intune, and JAMF, while evaluating and adopting newer, more modern software distribution tools and technologies. The engineer will identify opportunities to further automate and streamline packaging, improve scalability, reduce manual effort, accelerate application onboarding and updates, and support release cycles ranging from multiple deployments per week to periodic quarterly releases. The Senior Application Packaging & Modernization Engineer partners closely with endpoint engineering, platform teams, security, infrastructure, service operations, and application owners to assess emerging solutions and determine where they can complement or improve existing capabilities. Through continuous modernization, automation, and process improvement, this role will increase deployment speed, reduce operational overhead and end-user disruption, and deliver a more reliable and consistent application experience across the enterprise. Is responsible for defining, building, and continuously improving how General Motors packages, tests, deploys, updates, and maintains end-user applications across the enterprise. This role helps shape the engineering practices and operational execution required to modernize a well-established application packaging and deployment process across Windows, macOS, Linux, and other managed endpoint environments. You will evolve this process into a more agile, technology-enabled model that leverages modern tools and best practices to reduce manual work, improve turnaround time, and support release cycles ranging from multiple updates per week to periodic quarterly releases, while continuously refining the existing guardrails for how applications are packaged, validated, deployed, monitored, and updated - including standards for silent installs, detection logic, rollback planning, dependency management, deployment rings, user notifications, and success measurement. This role partners closely with endpoint engineering, platform teams, security, infrastructure, service operations, and application owners to translate packaging and deployment requirements into scalable engineering processes, automation, and reliable service delivery.
