Job summary

Carbon’s Staff Application Engineer role sits at the intersection of software, materials, and hardware to drive design-for-DLS and production-readiness. You’ll own complex programs from concept to production, guiding customers and internal teams through design choices, cost models, and scalability considerations.

You will mentor other engineers, create reusable templates, and push for process improvements across multiple sectors while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline with product development focus.
• 8+ years shipping products from concept to production readiness (DFM, SOP, transfer).
• Strong CAD/CAE proficiency and lattice design tooling knowledge.
• Experience scripting and automating design-to-production workflows.

Responsibilities

• Educate customers on DLS and manufacturability; guide tradeoffs for cost and production.
• Lead full lifecycle application development: design, printing, post-processing, validation.
• Drive technical strategy for applications to deliver customer benefits.
• Assess projects for production fit, provide recommendations to sales and leadership.
• Serve as technical liaison between GTM needs and internal product/engineering teams.
• Define test methods, iterate on feedback, and document results for customers.
